School Board Update

My Accomplishments Since I have Been on the Board

  • Enforces that parents have a right to their children’s education and well-being.

  • Schools now notify parents when their child checks out a library book, ensuring that parents remain informed with the material their child is exposed to at school.

  • Bedford Country now requires each patriotic week to showcase and celebrate the beauty of our history and understand the sacrifices of the men and women that came before us.

  • Increased staff/teacher pay, encouraged them to come forward with their concerns without fear of reprisal, reminded them of bodily autonomy (ie. Their choice to get vaccinated or wear masks).

  • Chris has saved Bedford tax-payers hundreds of thousands of dollars by taking deeper looks at the budget, limiting unnecessary purchases and pushing fiscal responsibility.

October School Board Update

Serving on the Bedford County School Board reminds me how much we depend on each other. From bus drivers waking up performing safely checks on their equipment to ensure our kids safety. Teachers sacrificing their own time to prepare lesson plans, setup classrooms to ensure student excellence. Cafeteria prep, cook, clean and tear down and janitorial cleanliness to mechanical preventative maintenance.

In closing statement at the September Board Meeting I wanted to ensure everyone working and volunteering tirelessly know Bedford County notices the good you are doing and it is making a big impact! Thank you for all you do, my Friday post is dedicated to the teachers, administration, parents/guardians and most importantly our great students! Keep up the great work!

September School Board Update

Tonight we held our school board meeting at Susie G. Gibson. I love visiting this facility as it offers so much for Bedford County students. If you haven’t been to a school board meeting I would suggest you attend one (or more). The more involved our community becomes the better our school system becomes. If you are a parent, teacher, guardian, tax payer or student attending our meeting, please remember I am available after each meeting. If you desire an individual board member to reply to an email, please address it to that individual board member, not the entire board. If your email is sent to the entire board it is the responsibility of the Chairwoman to reply. I hope this provides clarity to the process of email communications. Remember this goes for all School Board members so it isn’t that we don’t wish to respond, we are following protocol.

We won the Bedford GOP Endorsement - August 25, 2022

Tonight I attended the Bedford County GOP monthly meeting. This night was particularly special as the GOP agreed to endorse a candidate.. After all the votes were counted I was given the news that I won their endorsement! I truely appreciate everyone there tonight. It was great to see a room without an open seat in the house. I was blown away by the generosity of those who contributed financially, committed to volunteer and those who voted. I will serve the county to the best of my ability

August School Board Update – Celebrate with us!

When I first considered placing my name in the District 7 School Board race it was to be a man of action, not words.  As an example, state law protects the words “In God We Trust” and Bill of Rights to remain hung on the walls of our schools, of course unless they are painting. The policy we passed tonight doesn’t just ensure compliance as state law, it makes it actionable. This policy teaches our children that the founding documents aren’t just decorations on a wall but are the foundation of who we are as Americans and the sacrifice it took to make this great nation. Bedford County is rooted in patriotic remembrance and as a co-creator of “A Week of Patriotism” our goal was to solidify that these experiences are shared for years to come. This way even if the words are taken off the walls of schools they will be inscribed on our hearts as we will understand the meaning of the founding documents and the history of our country, both good and bad.  We will honor the sacrifices given by previous citizens that made this country great by visiting historical monuments and unpack the events that shaped this great nation! Thank you for all those who contributed to the success of this policy, it passed with a large majority vote, 5-2 vote by the School Board.

I look forward to celebrating this every year on Constitution Day (September 17).

I spoke to the students at the end of the meeting about sacrifice. I hope you will listen to the challenge I put out to the students in BCPS.

July School Board Update – Teachers and Staff Resolution Passed!

I am so excited to share that at last weeks school board meeting, the school board passed a solid and intentional Teachers' Resolution. The one that was introduced a few months ago lacked substance. I am never going to vote on something that offers insincere platitudes, but nothing substantial. We worked hard to make sure that the amended resolution included actionable items like – medical autonomy, earning protection, safety and security, among other things.

Teachers, you are so appreciated and Bedford County School Board hopes that in passing this resolution, you feel valued and esteemed.
